  • The Idaho Billfold

People have the wrong idea about Idaho. They think it's all fields of potatoes. While that's partly true, there is so much more to it than that. Farms, yes, but also vast forests, and deserts, and high plains, and deep canyons. And mountains. Lots and lots of mountains. It's so mountainous, in fact, that there are no highways running through the center of the state. There's simply nowhere to put one. They say Lewis and Clark sat down and cried when they saw all those mountains. Later, Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce led the U.S. Cavalry on a wild goose chase through those same mountains. It took tough people to settle Idaho. Loggers, farmers, miners. Tough people live there still. They need tough gear to survive there.

The Idaho Billfold. Beautiful, like the state it's named after. Tough, like the people who live there. And simple, because you don't need a lot of bling when you're hiking a forest or climbing a mountain. One main money pocket. Four card slots. Available in two styles: hand-tooled, veg-tanned leather; or plain, dark brown, oil-tanned leather.

  • The Hand-tooled Missoula Purse

When she walks into the room, people pay attention. Why wouldn’t they? The untamable hair, the deep blue eyes, the delicate features, the flowing patchwork dress, the red cowboy boots. She’s the kind you notice. But she’s so much more than a pretty face. She’s genuine, honest, intelligent, and immensely talented. Singer, actress, dancer, multi-instrumentalist, radio DJ (when such creatures still existed), creative programmer, voice-over artist, and businesswoman. So much to pack into one beautiful package. The funny thing is, I don’t actually remember the first time I met her. I just looked up one day, and she was a part of my life. Kind of like how Spring arrives in Missoula after the cold Montana winter. You step outside one morning, and the snow is almost gone, the trees are budding, you realize how warm the sun feels, and your spirits rise. That’s how she is. Inspiring. This is the first purse I made for her, the one she proudly carried for years, showed off to everyone she met. “Yes, my husband designed this!”

The Missoula Purse. Simple, yet attractive and definitely noticeable. One large, main compartment, big enough for a wallet, makeup, comb and brush, etc. One front pocket that will fit most cell phones. Full-width flap with clasp closure that covers both to keep your stuff inside and prying fingers out. Hand-tooled and richly dyed all over, with contrasting leather lining. Strong, adjustable cross-body strap.

  • The Fernan Fliptop Notebook Cover

It's a Tuesday in June. Midday. In the little harbor town of Vernazza, Italy, the sun is hammering the Piazza Gugglielmo Marconi. The cool pine forests of Idaho are half a world away! You seek shelter at a small table under an umbrella next to the harbor wall. Brightly painted boats rock languidly in the clear, blue water. Dr. Seuss houses clamber haphazardly up the steep hillsides. Tourists mill about everywhere, snapping selfies, talking too loudly. Some "dude" in cargo shorts and a T-shirt complains at the top of his lungs about the heat. Reaching into your bag, you pull out your notebook - THIS notebook - to make some sketches of the scene for a film you have in mind. The waiter from the Ananasso Bar notices it as he sets your "analcolico alla frutta" in front of you, and he nods approvingly. It's the little touches that set you apart.

The Fernan Fliptop Notebook Cover. Top opening. Dual purpose pen holder/latch keeps your pen - and your ideas - where they belong. Holds 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" top-flip notebook (Moleskine, Rite-In-the-Rain, Field Notes, etc). Available in 2 styles: plain, brown veg-tanned leather; two-tone leather with all-over hand-tooling in floral and basket weave pattern.

    -Plain $85 + shipping
    -Hand-tooled $170 + shipping

It all started with a cell phone…

I got a new one, and it didn’t fit my old holster. So I started looking around for a new one. But everything I saw disappointed me. They were all too corporate. Or too blingy. Or too…not me. So I thought, “Why don’t I try to make one.” I looked online for a few examples of leather cell phone holsters, made a trip to the local hobby outlet for some leather and thread, and I got to work. My first one - it was pretty awful! The second one was a little better. The third wasn’t half bad. My sixth attempt resulted in the one you see here. I’ve used it for years now. No complaints.
