The Panhandle Pancake Holster
I can still recall the first time I saw a Texas Ranger. It was 1981. San Antonio. We were going to the range, and we’d stopped in a gun store to pick up some ammo. I noticed him as soon as he walked in. He commanded the room. And not just because of his enormous size. No, this guy was the whole package. Impossibly white Stetson, crisp western-style shirt with the silver star over the left pocket, bolo tie made with a big old hunk of turquois, hand-tooled boots, wide hand-tooled belt with a massive silver and turquois buckle. And hanging from the belt, a fully-engraved, chrome-plated, pearl-handled Colt 45 in a custom hand-tooled holster. A holster like one of these. Cuz if you’re gonna carry, you might as well carry in style. What’s that you say? No one else will see it? Maybe so, but you will.
